Exciting News From Do-It Molds

Do-it Molds is set to release two highly anticipated new molds, and they’re coming very soon! These new designs were first introduced at ICAST 2024, where they made a huge splash and generated plenty of excitement in the custom tackle community. The first is the Weedless Compact Jig Mold—a mold that’s mini but mighty. Despite its smaller size, this mold delivers impressive power and versatility, making it ideal for anglers looking for a compact jig with superior performance. Whether you’re fishing in heavy cover or need a more finesse approach, this jig mold offers both precision and durability. The second is the Hover Jig Mold, built with the new hover strolling technique in mind. This mold allows you to create hover-style jigs perfect for targeting suspended fish, taking full advantage of modern sonar technology. It’s a must-have for anglers serious about upping their game with FFS systems. Reserve a new Weedless Compact Jig Mold, or your own Hover Jig Mold at Do-it Molds today! Both molds will be available soon, and they’re already generating a lot of buzz. Keep an eye out—you won’t want to miss your chance to get your hands on these game-changing designs!

Big Bass Bash Returns To LOZ

The BaitWrx Big Bass Bash returns to Lake Of The Ozarks October 5-6 with over $325,000 worth of payouts up for grabs. Bassmaster EQ angler Mike McClelland has won his fair share of money on LOZ and has offered up a detailed breakdown on how he thinks this event could play out. Bass at Lake Of The Ozarks likely will be transitioning into their fall patterns during the event and will be looking for the baitfish to put on the feedbag.  Depending on which section of the lake you are planning on fishing will dictate the approach you might choose, and McClelland has an answer for every inch of Lake Of The Ozarks. “October at Lake Of The Ozarks can be a fun time to fish and catch a lot of numbers, but in this event anglers will need to tailor their techniques for those bigger bites. I believe the winning fish can come from anywhere on the lake, however if I was fishing this event I would be on the hunt for the big gizzard shad and the areas they are currently utilizing.” said McClelland.

McClelland breaks Lake Of The Ozarks down into 3 sections, all of which can be extremely productive.

Lower End = Expect there to be the cleanest water on the lake and this is definitely where some of the biggest bass tend to live. If you get some cloudy, windy conditions during the event this end of the lake could be a major player. Typically you aren’t going to get as many bites in this area from my experience, but they are usually the right ones.

Mid Lake Area (Hurricane Deck Bridge To The Toll Bridge) = Expect the water to definitely have more color in this area of the lake. The Grand Glaze arm has the majority of release fish from local tournaments and usually produces a better average. This section is probably as good of section of the lake as any other and offers a great variety of opportunities and cover.

Upper Section (Hurricane Deck Bridge And Up) =  This section is always the wildcard in my opinion. The water color should allow you to fish shallower than in any other section of the lake, and there is an abundance of cover to target. This area can be one of the better sections to target boat docks in the fall as well.

Baits and Techniques:

“In an event like the Big Bass Bash I am going to lean towards power fishing, however finesse tactics could play, especially if the conditions are tough.” McClelland continued. “Topwater offerings are certainly going to be on the deck when I fish LOZ in the fall. A few of my top choices would be a Big Bite Baits Tour Buzz Toad, SPRO Walking Haint, and some style of plopper bait all fished on Sunline 60lb AMZ braided line.” If the topwater bite isn’t the ticket then McClelland is leaning towards two particular baits to target the lower half of the water column. “I’m a big fan of the Gamakatsu Hybrid Swing Head in the fall. I will rig a Big Bite Baits Magnum Finesse Worm, Battle Bug or Kamakaze Craw on my Gamakatsu Hybrid Worm Hook and use this setup to target rock transition areas throughout the lake. Of course you can never go wrong with a jig on Lake Of The Ozarks, so you will definitely want a few different styles ready to go. I’ve been having success on the new SPRO CJ Swim Jig in shad and bream patterns, and would utilize that to target laydowns and boat docks in search of that bigger bite.” said McClelland. “Finally I would have a big SPRO Chad Shad swimbait tied on with 25lb Sunline Shooter. Grand Shad or Bone would be great colors in that bait depending on whether it was sunny or cloudy.” McClelland concluded.

Midwestern and Northeastern anglers have always leaned on the marabou jig for big bites in tough conditions, especially in cold or clear water where smallmouth are present. The Beast Coast Tungsten Compound Superfly has arrived to bring a new quality standard to this highly effective product. Backed by a razor-sharp BKK hook for lightning-fast hook penetration, each jig is hand-tied with genuine marabou in a variety of sizes and proven color patterns.

Built with a lead-free tungsten compound to boost sensitivity and create a compact profile, the Superfly Hair jig has the optimal head shape to slowly swim the water column or drag and pop slowly off bottom. Finished with matte black 3D, the Beast Coast Tungsten Compound Superfly Hair Jig includes a small wire bait keeper so anglers can rig tiny chunks of scented plastic for added weight, castability, and a fuller body when wet.   Check out the full selection here.

How To Fish Docks Like A Pro

Fishing boat docks is one of the most consistent patterns for catching bass across the country, and AFTCO Pro Team angler Jason Christie has an affinity for targeting the man-made structures whenever the opportunity presents itself. Docks are often the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow when fishing for bass. They create multiple ambush points, allowing for easy feeding opportunities. Each row of pilings and every corner offers a sneaky spot for bass to hide and ambush their prey. While the dock itself is cover, many also have multiple brush piles that homeowners and anglers have planted around them, making them one of the best places to target while bass fishing. Learn more about how Jason Christie likes to dissect docks by clicking here.

Use A Fluorocarbon Leader To Catch More Fish

When it comes to braid-to-leader combinations, there are many different options out there of what to use. It can often be overwhelming for an angler when looking at all the different options of braid and fluorocarbon, and it can sometimes be difficult to know which ones to choose when you don’t know the differences between one versus another. This is why we design leader-specific lines at Sunline to meet the anglers’ needs when looking for that perfect line that performs well when tied to braid. Leader-specific materials are very unique as they have certain characteristics more than other fluorocarbon lines do such as superior abrasion resistance, sensitivity, and strength required for those heavy hooksets and hard-fighting fish. There are many different techniques that a braid-to-leader combination can be used, and there are many benefits of using braid-to-leader. Check out the full blog here.
Designed to be the perfect flipping and pitching bait, the Black Label Cliff Pace Bug features a unique two-sided construction with a ribbed underside to help displace more water and a slick top-side with added lines to make it easier to rig perfectly in the center of the bait. Supplying a fluid and lifelike-fluttering action as it travels through the water column, the Cliff Pace Bug is equipped with tapered front and side appendages that invoke a natural movement even when worked at a slower rate of speed. The beefy plastic body provides extra mass and makes it easier to cast with flipping and pitching techniques, the Cliff Pace Bug even excels as a jig or buzzbait trailer and can be rigged with the slick top side down for easy skipping under docks and shaded pockets. Scented with the sweet ‘bass candy’ aroma, the Black Label Cliff Pace Bug has all the traits and attributes needed for flipping, pitching, and skipping around heavy cover to produce big bites from big bass. Check out the full selection here.

Shoreline Tech Tip: Clean Your Boat!

As the busiest time of the tournament season winds down, your boat is probably in need of some serious TLC. Here are some tips from Shoreline Boat & RV Repair to keep your vessel looking great.

Outside:

  • Give your boat a wipe-down with Hot SauceBass Boat Saver, or similar.
  • Hard water spots? Mix vinegar & water 1:1, apply with a cloth or sponge, and watch the water spots disappear!

Seats:

  • DIY Solutions:
  • Option 1: Mix a few drops of mild soap (like Dawn) and warm water in a container.
  • Option 2: Mix white vinegar and water with a 50/50 ratio in a spray bottle.
  • Specialized Cleaners:
  • Our techs recommend Vinyl Sauce, which works great for all types of boat seats.

Carpet:

  • Get 4 cans of Barbasol shaving cream, apply it to the carpet, then use a brush to scrub it in. After that, power wash. This process fluffs up the carpet and make the boat smell great, too!

The Ultimate Guide To Fishing Sponsors

If you’re looking to be a sponsored angler, this ultimate guide will help you get started. This guide includes expert advice from people who have spent years working as reps for several brands in the fishing industry. You may be reading this guide thinking that the only way to get sponsors is to have an outstanding track record in fishing tournaments. This could not be further from the truth. In fact, having an outstanding track record in tournaments means nothing to a company if the angler does not promote and sell the product well. Sure, winning lots of major tournaments puts your name on the map, but companies typically don’t go knocking on everyone’s door anymore when there are so many major tournaments with so many anglers. Plus, there are so many social media influencers out there. So, how do you set yourself apart from the rest of the crowd? Check out 3 major ways to get sponsors here.
Purpose-built for jig minnow rigging and pairing with forward-facing sonar, the Hog Farmer Baits Stroll Shad has been fine-tuned to create a lethal baitfish presentation. Featuring a slick un-ribbed body, the Stroll Shad is offered in a scaled-down profile that activates a lively and fish-attracting shimmy of Hog Farmer’s signature pin tail. Incorporating key body shape details that have made the Spunk Shad so effective, anglers see results in any variety of techniques. Rig the Stroll Shad as a finesse presentation on the back of any vibrating jig, spinner bait, or underspin and produce exceptional strolling action with a small jig head. Break out the Hog Farmer Baits Stroll Shad when the bite gets tough and watch it become your favorite bite-getting minnow bait when it’s time to target finicky or suspended bass. Check out the full selection here.

Top Line Choices For Forward Facing Sonar

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard or seen on social media anglers talking about the topic of forward-facing sonar discussing how much it has been proven successful over traditional techniques. Some of these forward-facing sonar setups include Garmin LiveScopeHumminbird MEGA Live, and Lowrance ActiveTarget. There are many lures that can get bites paired with this technology, but Bassmaster Elite Series and Sunline pro Cody Huff claims the lures that consistently perform year-round seem to be the drop shot, swimbait, and of course the “jig head/minnow” like the Missile Baits Spunk Shad. At Sunline, we know that there is so much more than just knowing what lures perform best. So, we reached out to Cody Huff to ask him what setup he uses for these techniques. Check out all of Cody’s feedback in the full blog here.

Cashing Out

For the first time in my career I cashed a check in every event I fished this year. Even when I won AOY in 2018 I wasn’t able to do that. I finished 7th overall in the points, so there is still room for improvement of course! It was also cool to lead the overall Heavy Hitters top spot this season. The Heavy Hitters standings are based on each anglers single biggest fish for each event. My average big fish was just under 6lbs. Pretty solid!

Back In A Tundra

I traded my 2020 Ram 2500 for this 2023 Tundra last fall and after using it all year and putting 26,000 miles on it I have to say I’m impressed with this 6 cylinder turbo engine. We will see about longevity as they get more time under them, but so far this truck has pulled the boat really well. I’m getting between 12-12.5 MPG towing the boat. I am still running an ARE cap (through RealTruck), Yakima TopWater’s on top, and I switched to a Decked drawer system this year. This has been a really comfortable truck and I’m excited how it turned out. I’m 38 now so my days of a lifted truck might be done. LOL!

Staying Healthy

I really enjoy living a healthy lifestyle. Of course I will make exceptions every now and then (ice-cream cuts like Palaniuk), but I strive to eat clean foods and get in several workouts a week. My ideal workouts for a week would be two runs, two weight lifting days, and two heavy incline treadmill days. This has been a good mixture for me and I’m especially proud of getting my VO2Max score up to 50! I started at a 35 a full year ago. Here’s a picture for proof and also a picture of the kind of food I will typically bring on the boat any given day.

Combining versatility and proven popper performance into one, the Berkley Bullet Pop Popper is crafted to deliver exciting top water action that is easy to use and trigger lots of bites. The Berkley Bullet Pop Popper’s tail weighted design ensures excellent casting distance while its tapered back provides a flat surface for additional flashing that attracts fish from great distances. Not only does the Berkley Bullet Pop Popper’s cupped mouth produce a classic spitting action and surface swell, but its unique balance allows anglers of all skill levels to easily walk it nearly 180 degree with minimal forward movement. Armed with Berkley Fusion19 treble hooks, the Berkley Bullet Pop Popper is perfect for covering open water, targeting high percentage areas, and everything in between. Check out the full selection here.

Battery Problems Solved

I finally feel like I found the ultimate battery configuration. This year I ran all Millertech batteries and they performed flawlessly! I ran two 36v 60AH batteries in parallel for my Power-Pole Move. Then I had a 12v 190AH for all of my electronics with a back up 135AH just to be safe (I never ended up needing it). Lastly, I ran a group 31 AGM for cranking my big motor and all the switches at the console. I’m ordering my new boat soon and will be doing the exact same set up next year. I’m really fired up about finally feeling like I have the best set up.

Lucas’s Dream Shop

We recently moved from the house we had been in for 12 years and our plan is to be in this house for a really long time, so I built this shop with that in mind. I used to have a 20’x40’ shop, but I spent the extra money to do a 20’x60’ for the new build so I could fit the whole rig in it. So far that has been money well spent. It has made me extremely efficient getting ready and packing for tournaments. I use to think that I wanted a pull through shop, but the one thing you don’t think about is that you’ll lose a whole wall for storage space. That’s why I stuck with the traditional garage. I will back in every time to have that entire wall for storage. I also added a drain, fans above my boat parking, and an epoxy floor in this shop. I’m stoked with how it all turned out! One trick if you have slat wall is using the slat wall clothes hangars for rod storage. This works great and gets your rods off the ground.

Iyobe Goes Ten Feet Under
Photos Courtesy Ken Iyobe
American bass fishing fans may recognize the name Ken Iyobe from his two year stint on the Bassmaster Elite Series, or his subsequent quest to requalify for the big show through the Bassmaster Opens. While Ken has made quite the mark while on the water, he is equally as passionate about his business ventures off of the water. Iyobe’s tackle company, Ten Feet Under is quickly becoming a sought after brand not only in Japan, but is also gaining attention in the U.S. market. We recently caught up with Ken to get some more information on the company and the story behind the brand.
How did you start the brand 10ft Under?
“The brand was a result of my passion to help everyone catch more fish. I started 10ftu to produce lures that would give anglers the tools they needed to be successful in that quest.”
What is the meaning behind the name 10ft Under?
“I just love shallow water fishing! That’s why it’s named ten feet under.”
What baits and products will 10ft under offer?
“Right now we offer swimbaits, wooden crankbaits, hand poured plastics, spinnerbaits, and tubes. We have some other new products on the way also that I am really excited about.”
Where do you get your inspiration and passion for bait design?
“Sometimes I will get an idea for a bait while I am on the water fishing. Other times I will just sit down at my desk and draw images and designs of things I think might work. All of my designs are based on my passion to fish for bass all over the world and that is what makes me keep going and inspires me.”
Everyone wants to know when the brand will be available in the U.S. and where they can get their hands on your baits?
Carolina Fishing Tackle will be the first retailer in the states. They just put in their initial order and the shipment should be in the first or second week in September.”

Lane Offers Late Summer Cranking Tips
Photos Courtesy Russ Lane
When it comes to figuring out a current related crankbait bite you would be hard pressed to find an angler more adept at it than Bass Pro Tour professional Russ Lane. Cutting his teeth on the Coosa River and its adjoining reservoirs Lane quickly learned the importance of current, and its dynamic affect on positioning bass. “Learning how to fish current, whether it is from river flow or dam and spillway generated is something that will really help you during the warmer months of the year,” says Lane. When temperatures soar, flow or current often help oxygenate and cool the water offering a more comfortable environment for bass, and providing ample feeding opportunities as well. “Anytime that water temperature gets way up there I am going to be looking for some type of current if I can find it on any body of water I’m fishing. Flow helps position fish on easily identifiable ambush points, allowing you to be more efficient when targeting them,” Lane continues. His preferred setup when fishing in current is his signature series SPRO Fat Papa 70 crankbait paired with a 6:3:1 reel spooled with 12lb Sunline FC Sniper and 7′ Phenix Glass Crankbait Rod Based on the species he is targeting Lane does make a slight adjustment in his choice of treble hooks. “If I am targeting Spotted or Smallmouth bass I will switch out the treble hooks on my crankbait to the #2 Gamakatsu EWG, both of those fish have smaller mouths and I believe the EWG allows the hook to dig in a little better. The slight hook adjustment and the glass rod are a big key in helping me land a higher percentage of the crankbait fish I hook.” Lane concluded.
5. Baits Not Being Talked About
A swim jig is often a big player in many parts of the country in the late summer/early fall season. The 6th Sense Divine Swim Jig features a detailed eye socket, gill plates and realistic 3-D eyes. The head design is semi-flat and keel-weighted to create a secondary swimming action and allowing it to skip easily around cover. It features a 5/0 black nickel hook and screw lock bait keeper and is available for $4.99.

Wes Logan Ready For Elite Series
We recently caught up with Springville, Alabama angler Wes Logan to get his take on joining the Bassmaster Elite Series in 2020, and find out what he has been up to during the off season. Check out his thoughts in this candid Q&A.
For those that are unfamiliar with Wes Logan, can you give us some background on your fishing career? “I have fished the FLW Tour the past 2 seasons, and prior to that I fished BFLs, Costa’s, and one season of the Opens in 2017 where I finished 12th in the points. After a blessed season in the 2018 Opens I was fortunate enough to win AOY in the Central Division and qualify for the 2020 Elite Series.”
What are your biggest concerns if you have any about transitioning to the Bassmaster Elite Series? “I wouldn’t say that I have any concerns because I’ve been fishing professionally for the past two seasons. I feel like that helps me as far as being used to the travel and stress level that these higher level tournaments put on you. It’s a whole different world when you go from fishing 3 day tournaments where you have unlimited practice time and no off limits to fishing 4 day tournaments with only a few practice days and you can’t get any information. It speeds everything up tremendously.”
How have you been preparing for the 2020 season, and which stops are you looking the most forward to, and also which ones have you a little worried? “Up until this point in the off season I actually haven’t been fishing much at all. I work while I am at home with a family member who is a home builder and I also help out my uncle who builds custom cabinets, so I’m pretty occupied doing that. I guess you could say the off season isn’t off for me too much. I need to make all the extra money I can. I would have to say I am looking forward to the Eufaula and Santee Cooper tournaments because I have done well there in the past. Not saying that I am going to do well this time around, but I feel like I will know what kind of lake I’m getting into before I get there. The northern swing kind of worries me just because it doesn’t fit my style of fishing, but I have done ok in a few smallmouth tournaments so there is hope.”
How has the business side of the game been since you decided to take the step to the Elite Series? “The business side of the game since joining the Elites has been the biggest difference to me. It seems to me that the weight that the Bassmaster Elite Series carries is so much more than what I was used to before at FLW. So when you say you’re on the Elites people kind of pay attention and perk up a little. Being on the Elites means more opportunity for promotion, reaching a larger number of people, and at the same time having a lot more obligations to my sponsors and the companies that support me. It’s always been a dream since I decided that I wanted to try and make a living fishing to be on the Elite Series. And now that I have made it, it is truly like a dream come true and I am blessed and thankful for the opportunity. After the great season I had in the Opens this year, it just seems like it was meant for me to be on the Elite Series and I thank the Good Lord for the opportunity and hope to make the most of it. “

Garmin Force Available Now
Since the ICAST show in July, the fishing industry has been abuzz about trolling motors. The Garmin Force garnered much of the attention, as anglers across the country have anticipated being able to mount one on the front of their rig. The time is finally here, and the Garmin Force has not disappointed. As the most powerful and efficient trolling motor on the market, the Garmin Force Trolling Motor uses wireless chartplotter connectivity to provide navigation, autopilot, and anchor lock features. One of the new features the Garmin Force offers is a wireless foot pedal, that steers and feels just like a cable steered pedal. Not a fan of the wireless option? No problem, just install the foot pedal in a traditional hardwired method. Garmin staffer Justin McClelland spent countless hours on the water with the Garmin Force prototypes and final product, and couldn’t be more pleased with the product that is going to market. “I have had the opportunity to run this trolling motor for almost a year now, and all I can say is wow. The motor is absolutely bullet proof. I have never run a motor this powerful, and better yet I have had absolutely zero issues with it. I’ve put the motor through extreme testing in the last year, and have nothing but great things to say about it.” said McClelland. The Garmin Force bracket will line up with the current hole pattern of the Minn Kota Ultrex, so if you are planning on making the switch you won’t have to drill more holes in your boat. Available in 50″ and 57″ shaft models, the Garmin Force offers options for deep and shallow water anglers alike. Check out the full specs and all the details about the Garmin Force here.

What Causes 95% Of All Rod failures?
Many anglers believe that “lifetime warranty” on a rod means that it should be replaced no matter the reason forever. Whether or not that break was their fault or if it suddenly broke after many uses, should be irrelevant. In reality, most rod breakage that occurs due to defect happens in one of the first uses of the rod. Breakage after those first few uses is often related to some action to the rod from the angler that weakened it causing it to break at a later date. Rod companies can only cover breaks that are truly related to a defect in the product. Tom Kirkman wrote an in depth article on the North Fork composites website about rod breakage.Over 200 blanks were analyzed for different breaks and then categorized into 16 different types of rod failures or combination failures that are a result of use or abuse from anglers. He also provides examples of actual manufacturer defects and what causes them. See the full article.
He also customizes the area by the driver’s console where his rod tips lay to protect them and to prevent tangling.

Lady Bass Anglers Women’s Pro Bass Tour
Secret York won the Angler of the Year on the Lady Bass Anglers Women’s Pro Bass Tour in 2019. She was the #1 ranked angler after the three tournament season which included stops at Hickory Lake, Toledo Bend and the season finale at Logan Martin which she won.
“I can remember fishing with my Dad as far back as when I was 6 years old. I absolutely hated bobber fishing and would always pick out cool looking lures to throw. I have fished all my life and in 1994 a friend introduced me to tournament angling with the the National Bass N gals. Since then I have competed with the Womens Bass Fishing Association, Womens Bassmaster Tour, Bassin Her Style and now the Lady Bass Anglers Association.
I love to fish and just being on the water is my sanity pill. Of all the years of my fishing and travels, the things that have meant the most to me are the people I have met and the friendships that I have shared. I am very blessed by being married to my husband (Kent) for 28 years, two children and three grands.
At my real job I am a heavy equipment operator in a steel mill” York concluded.

Nose Hooked
Keith Leftridge is a successful regional tournament angler from the Kansas City area. He and his long time tournament partner were fishing a tournament early this Fall when his partner swung and missed on a bite in the first 10 minutes of their day on the water. The hook and tungsten weight flew thru the air hitting Keith in the face and mouth. The Gamakatsu hook buried into his nose and the tungsten weight struck him in the mouth, knocking out a tooth. Keith had a great attitude despite the pain and was back on the water later that same day after a trip to the emergency department. It also required multiple dentist visits to repair the tooth damage. His advice to all anglers is “always wear sunglasses or clear safety glasses when fishing”. He and his partner both carry safety glasses in their boats for times of low light when it is too dark for sunglasses.

Are You Spooling Your Braid Correctly?
Are you spooling your braid correctly? Dean Rojas recently gave us a few tips to help you get the most out of your braided line. “First you want to make sure you are using backing 100% of the time. I pick a backing that is similar to the diameter of the braid I will be spooling up with. Typically I am only using 15 feet or so of backing, but that makes all the difference in the world. It prevents the braid from digging into the spool and slipping.” said Rojas. Using more braid than you think you need to is also a big part of the equation Rojas insists. “When you first spool the braid on it will be what I like to call ‘fluffy’. Once it gets wet it will lay down and become more compact, so you always want to spool a little more than you think you will need,: Rojas concluded.

Designed in collaboration between Spro and BPT angler Shin Fukae, the Spro Wameku Shad 70 has been fine tuned with a unique acoustic profile that sets it apart from all other lipless crankbaits. Coming from the Japanese word “Wameku,” which means “loud talking and noise,” the aptly named Spro Wameku Shad 70 features a distinct, high-pitch knocking sound that is unlike anything bass have ever heard. In addition to its defined auditory presence, the Spro Wamkeu Shad 70 also features two line ties, allowing anglers to utilize two distinctly different, yet equally effective presentations. The forward line tie provides an attitude that excels in shallow water, while the rear line tie provides a more subtle action that allows the bait to get down in the water column.
