For the first time in my career I cashed a check in every event I fished this year. Even when I won AOY in 2018 I wasn’t able to do that. I finished 7th overall in the points, so there is still room for improvement of course! It was also cool to lead the overall Heavy Hitters top spot this season. The Heavy Hitters standings are based on each anglers single biggest fish for each event. My average big fish was just under 6lbs. Pretty solid!
Back In A Tundra
I traded my 2020 Ram 2500 for this 2023 Tundra last fall and after using it all year and putting 26,000 miles on it I have to say I’m impressed with this 6 cylinder turbo engine. We will see about longevity as they get more time under them, but so far this truck has pulled the boat really well. I’m getting between 12-12.5 MPG towing the boat. I am still running an ARE cap (through RealTruck), Yakima TopWater’s on top, and I switched to a Decked drawer system this year. This has been a really comfortable truck and I’m excited how it turned out. I’m 38 now so my days of a lifted truck might be done. LOL!
Staying Healthy
I really enjoy living a healthy lifestyle. Of course I will make exceptions every now and then (ice-cream cuts like Palaniuk), but I strive to eat clean foods and get in several workouts a week. My ideal workouts for a week would be two runs, two weight lifting days, and two heavy incline treadmill days. This has been a good mixture for me and I’m especially proud of getting my VO2Max score up to 50! I started at a 35 a full year ago. Here’s a picture for proof and also a picture of the kind of food I will typically bring on the boat any given day.

Battery Problems Solved
I finally feel like I found the ultimate battery configuration. This year I ran all Millertech batteries and they performed flawlessly! I ran two 36v 60AH batteries in parallel for my Power-Pole Move. Then I had a 12v 190AH for all of my electronics with a back up 135AH just to be safe (I never ended up needing it). Lastly, I ran a group 31 AGM for cranking my big motor and all the switches at the console. I’m ordering my new boat soon and will be doing the exact same set up next year. I’m really fired up about finally feeling like I have the best set up.
We recently moved from the house we had been in for 12 years and our plan is to be in this house for a really long time, so I built this shop with that in mind. I used to have a 20’x40’ shop, but I spent the extra money to do a 20’x60’ for the new build so I could fit the whole rig in it. So far that has been money well spent. It has made me extremely efficient getting ready and packing for tournaments. I use to think that I wanted a pull through shop, but the one thing you don’t think about is that you’ll lose a whole wall for storage space. That’s why I stuck with the traditional garage. I will back in every time to have that entire wall for storage. I also added a drain, fans above my boat parking, and an epoxy floor in this shop. I’m stoked with how it all turned out! One trick if you have slat wall is using the slat wall clothes hangars for rod storage. This works great and gets your rods off the ground.
